Common Treatment Areas
Intense Pulsed Light
At Erasure Skin we use the Astanza IPL system which produces significantly more fluence than competitive IPL systems. It allows larger spot sizes for faster treatments which enables better hair removal results.
Intense Pulse light (IPL) technology uses a handheld device which emits pulses of light that target the hair follicles during their growth phase. This damages or destroys the follicles and prevents the re-growth of hair.
The laser energy that passes through the patient’s skin is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. A percentage of these follicles are immediately and permanently disabled or destroyed during each session. These sessions can take several minutes or several hours depending on the area of the body involved in the procedure. No anesthesia is necessary in most cases.

Treatment
This procedure works best when the hair to be removed has been shaved off prior to treatment, allowing all the energy to be used in dealing with the follicle. Prior to the procedure, patients should not tan. If more than one session is required, patients should avoid tanning between those sessions. While it is fine to shave between sessions, patients must not wax or bleach the skin.
Patients with dark hair most often see permanent hair loss due to the high concentration of melanin. Those with blonde, white, or gray hair will need to be retreated. However, this depends on the area of the body being treated. Also, patients with darker pigmentation may not respond as well as those with lighter skin.
Areas Treated
-
The most common areas for women are the upper lip, chin, underarms and bikini line.
-
Men desire hair removal on the back, shoulders, chest and back of neck.
-
We do arms, legs, toes, ears and more! We can treat any area with the exception of the areas around the eyes.
Areas not treated
-
The eyelids and areas surrounding the eyes are sensitive to this procedure because of the risks of severe and permanent eye injuries.
-
Injured or sunburnt skin is also not fit for this procedure.
-
We also avoid hairs that grow out of moles. This can affect the pigment and cause burns or make it impossible to identify by a dermatologist looking for melanoma signs and triggers.
Erasure Skin can treat tattooed skin with IPL as long as the patient understands that his or her tattoo might fade after a few sessions.
Results differ in terms of skin and hair colouration. However, the average effectiveness rate of this hair reduction technology is approximately 60% after 3 months treatment and about 75% one year later.
